The Plight of Dogs in Rural Shelters.

Placing Paws of Illinois (PPI) was established with the goal of saving animals from high risk situations. One of our primary goals is to take animals from rural shelters that have a high euthanasia rate. Rural shelters are often overcrowded and under funded and the animals there have little or no hope of finding an adoptive home. Often times their best hope of finding a happy forever home is to be taken into the care of a rescue such as PPI. All of the animals that are taken into the care and comfort of PPI receive proper veterinary care and a loving foster home while they wait to be placed in the "Hearts of their Forever Homes".

Many more wonderful dogs are waiting to be rescued from death row in overcrowded rural shelters. Dogs of all shapes and sizes from Chihuahuas and Daschunds to labs and puppies are anxiously waiting to be saved. Please help us rescue these dogs by fostering, adopting or sponsoring one of them.

Easter is an example of a fantastic dog that was saved just in the nick of time. Please read her heartwarming story below.

an Easter story.
Some people say that everything happens for a reason. I didn’t believe that until I got involved in rescue!
The week before Easter Sunday I traveled to Marion, IL with my son’s high school baseball team to watch them play in a tournament. One afternoon I checked my e-mail and one in particular jumped out at me, the subject line read “Williamson County Dog Pound, Marion." It turns out that the Williamson County Dog Pound was 5 minutes down the road from my hotel . . . (click here for Easter's Story)

puppy mill follow-up.

Thanks to all that helped and the outpouring of support for the puppy mill dogs. They are all doing well. We are happy to report that Bernard, Gigi, Macey, Jacques and Maurice have all found their forever homes and have started their new lives. Cullen is still waiting for his forever home. Cullen is a very sweet lovable guy that we are confident will find his forever home soon. If you or someone you know might be interested in adopting Cullen, please contact us at PlacingPaws@yahoo.com.

It was a long and hard journey, but it was well worth it and they are all making it into the “hearts of their forever homes.” A big thank you goes to Care Animal Hospital and Shear Paradise Pet Salon. They were instrumental in helping with the transformations.

Please consider donating to Placing Paws so that we can help rescue these and many other animals. We know that in the current economic times, it can be very hard to make a large donation. Please know that donations of any size WILL make a difference. We also have created many other ideas and opportunities for you to help.  If we all pull together and help out just a little, it will help out a lot and continue to allow us to save more animals. This is especially needed in these difficult times because the animals need us now more than ever.
